Swim season begins in November. As January ends, PPS seek a head coach to replace me. OMG.

Hard to believe. See so for yourself on the PPS careers web pages.

Nobody should take this job. Nobody wants to work for a principal that doesn't have the common decency to meet with a coach, even after multiple requests, every week, for a meeting.

Furthermore

The whole job framework is messed. There are four head swim coaches with the one school. There is a head boys varsity coach -- the job I had for about 10 years. Then there is the head girls varsity coach. The teacher doing this job in the 2018-19 season was bullied into it by the principal. Funny, I was bullied out of the job the prior season.

So, in 2018-19 season, this is the sixth consecutive year that the girls varsity swim team has a new head coach. That smells like a ripe Title IX violation.

Plus, beyond the two head coaches for the varsity teams there are two head coaches for the middle school teams. And in the 2018-19 season, one of the coaches had to do nearly the whole job become the other coach was out of town in care-taker duties. When we talked, he was not happy at the Middle School Championship meets.

Years ago I pushed for ONE head coach for the program with three assistant coaches. That's how the programs are run, and should be run, with the competition in the WPIAL. None have four head coaches in one pool.

Furthermore, in the fall of 2017, going into the 2017-18 season, there was an opening for the girls middle school swim coach -- and I applied. I had an interview. I could have united the programs without a big job switch and union wranglings -- but no. The principal fumbled that when I was not hired. I had coached the pre-season practices and the first four practices of the first week of  new season. Then the new, old coach, CW, came onto the deck. Okay. The writing was on the wall -- in big, red colors.

Ugh.
